Urbana is a large city in eastern Illinois. It is located 140 miles south of Chicago and 120 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana. The city is positioned in Champaign County and serves as the seat of government therein. According to the United States Census Bureau, Urbana was populated by approximately 42,014 people in 2016. It is one of the largest cities in Champaign County. 

Urbana is in a region of the United States originally inhabited by Native American Indians. Eventually, individuals of European descent settled in the area. The first European-American home was erected in the early 1800s. Other individuals began establishing themselves in the area shortly after. Following the formation of Champaign County, the County Commissioner’s Court appointed commissioners to select a new site for the county. A new site was selected and became known as Urbana. 

Today, Urbana is an attractive city. It features some of the best shopping and dining opportunities in the area and many attractions. According to the City of Urbana website, “There are many things to do, see and experience in Urbana and the surrounding area, as well as a wide variety of places to stay and an excellent assortment of restaurants for every palette and budget.”
