About Paxton, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Paxton is a small city in east-central Illinois. It is positioned in Ford County and serves as the seat of government therein. As of 2016, the City of Paxton was populated by approximately 4,304 people according to the United States Census Bureau. It is the largest city in Ford County. 

The City of Paxton was founded along the tracks of the Illinois Central Railroad in 1859. According to Outside the Rails: A Rail Route Guide from Chicago to Carbondale, IL, “The town was initially named Prairie City in the late 1840s, then Prospect City by an Illinois Central Railroad official in 1855.” About five years later the community was renamed as Paxton in honor of Joseph Paxton, an architect and investor in the Illinois Central Railroad. Paxton became an incorporated municipality in August 1871. 

Today, Paxton is an attractive city. It is almost 100 miles south of Chicago and 150 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana. According to the city’s website, “Paxton has the charm of fine old homes, a busy downtown and a fine school system.” The distinctive Midwestern charm and attractive atmosphere have made Paxton an attractive Ford County village. In Paxton, Illinois, there is something for everyone.
